Got lucky with a ticket sale, so now I'm sitting in the business lounge at Union Station in Toronto. This place is so fancy. Free drinks and food and stuff. And the fire alarm has been going off for five or ten minutes now, and we've been told to stay seated and not be worried about it. Holy shit. Rich people don't give a fuck.
Further proof this is for rich bastards:
The free drink fridge stocks club soda. Holy fuck. I should not be here.

Unless the lounge is on fire, you're fine.

Not that I can find. I'll see if the complementary lunch comes with it.
I have found the magazine rack, but there is nothing automotive related, so I'm disappointed.

This is when I undergo a Mr. Regular style personality change and start ranting about how Lexus seats are perfect for my hemorrhoids and how things were less expensive in the past.

Be sure to arrive at a time that isn't rush hour. If there's one thing I hate about this city is that the swarms of people prevent you from going anywhere you actually need to go.

Also...isn't club soda available in Walmart and such? And isn't it kinda gross to drink on it's own?
CB

No no, it's free club soda. The plebes at Walmart have to pay for it and stand in line for it. And I have no idea how it tastes, seeing as how I'm probably too young and don't have enough stocks to drink it.

My train gets there at 2pm on Sunday. I think I'm good. I do have experience with pushing through crowds though.

Know how you can spot a poor person who's been upgraded?
He's busy slamming the complimentary club soda and keeping a watchful eye on the other free stuff.
I should know. Get away from my free mini eggrolls. Those are mine.

Where are you coming in from, if you don't mind me asking? And I imagine people with no experience with hordes of others probably get crushed to death here.

I get on in Glencoe, just West of London. Being 6'4" helps with getting through.

I've been in a few First Class Lounges and pricey hotels. I think its most fun to act like you own the place :)
I mean not in a dickish sort of way. Just being confident.
Free buffets with real food, not snacks. Top shelf alcohol. Unlimited beverages and espresso - none of that that drip coffee bullshit lol. Its a good life :)

Dude, they gave us warm "lemon scented towelettes" (whatever the fuck that means) to wash our hands before lunch. They keep bothering me asking if I want more snacks and drinks.
A guy could get used to this kind of service. I need to make a lot of money one day.

how much did the upgrade cost?
On my flights over my winter break from work I just had it would've been about 175-200 bucks a seat to upgrade to first class. If we didn't have the baby with us I would have SERIOUSLY considered...

Twenty-five bucks. It's a four and a half hour train ride, and I've been working my arse off, so I figured I'd splurge a little.

25 bucks is totally worth it.
Are you in the high end set up for the ride too or just the station?
CB

For the ride. I've been on it for the past two and a half hours. It feels like I get more legroom, the aforementioned endless snacks and drinks, and free lunch. If I drank, I could get free booze. It's pretty swell.
Sidenote: if you ever need to do a run between Toronto and Ottawa, I'd recommend the train over flying. The airports in both cities are pretty out of the way (unless you fly Porter, where you have to wait half an hour for some bullshit ferry to take you fifty metres into downtown toronto), while the train stations are both downtown. And dealing with train stations is a hell of a lot easier than dealing with airports.

oh yeah, it's family policy for us if we go to Chicago to just take the train from outside Detroit.
Takes about the same amount of time, but no worry about parking in Chicago so you end up with 1st class amtrak tickets for less money than driving.
